Case Studies
We completed an addition and whole-house renovation on this brick center hall colonial in the U ST neighborhood. The 1937 house still had many of the period trim and molding details. Our clients wanted to expand to create a comfortable home for the family with plenty of entertaining space. At the first floor, the side addition and a small rear one-story addition allows for an open kitchen, dining, living room, and access to outdoor entertaining.

How the Addition Process Works with Karma Construction Group

1
Consultation and Design Contract
Our process begins with an initial consultation where we discuss your vision, goals, and budget for the addition. During this meeting, we gather information about your existing home and site, understand your requirements, and offer preliminary advice on feasibility and costs. Once you decide to move forward, we formalize our agreement with a design contract, outlining the scope of work and timeline.
2
Initial Design Meeting:
In the initial design meeting, you will meet with our design team, including architects and designers, to discuss your ideas in more detail. We delve deeper into your preferences, needs, and style. This collaborative session helps us create a design that reflects your vision while ensuring it integrates seamlessly with your existing home.
3
Schematic Design
: Based on the initial discussions, our design team develops schematic designs. These initial drawings outline the basic layout and structure of your addition, showing how it will connect to your existing home. We review these schematics with you, making adjustments as needed to ensure the design aligns with your expectations and requirements.
3
Permitting and Construction
As you finalize selections, our designer will be creating construction drawings to submit for a building permit. In D.C., the submission and approval process can take several months (it is a little shorter in Maryland and Virginia). Once we secure the permit, we will start demolition and move into framing, plumbing, electrical, drywall, etc. The punch list of small items is the last segment.
