2024 Additions in DC, Maryland, and Virginia | Karma Construction Group

Washington D.C. | VA | MDHome Additions

An addition can be a small bump-out, or a single or multiple-level structure on a single-family home or a pop-up third-story addition on a rowhouse. Whether you are bumping out a wall, adding onto the main level, or raising the roof for a second story, in every addition project, our architects and designers aspire to:

  • Design an addition that blends with the existing house and site, unless otherwise desired by the client

  • Create a seamless connection between the existing house and addition

  • Advise you on the ideal square footage to fulfill your needs

  • Build better views, add natural light, and improve your home’s relation to the outdoors

  • Take advantage of the new walls to improve insulation and weatherproofing

Benefits of a Home Addition

  1. Maximize the Value of Your Home We can advise you on the cost versus value of the type and size of the addition that would best suit your home and the value it would add. Additions that include kitchens and baths add the highest value.

  2. More Cost-Effective Than Moving If you have thought about finding a new home to provide the space you need, but love your home and neighborhood, building an addition may best fit your needs. Our expertise can help you make the “love it or list it” decision.

  3. Flexible Space for a Variety of Uses An addition can provide a suite for guests, nannies/au pairs, renters, or give you more room for a hobby.

  4. Addressing Energy-Efficiency and Comfort Opening up walls allows us to better insulate a house and install efficient HVAC systems and appliances.

Case Studies

We completed an addition and whole-house renovation on this brick center hall colonial in the U ST  neighborhood. The 1937 house still had many of the period trim and molding details. Our clients wanted to expand to create a comfortable home for the family with plenty of entertaining space. At the first floor, the side addition and a small rear one-story addition allows for an open kitchen, dining, living room, and access to outdoor entertaining.
